During one of our many conversations my son, Jeffrey, was sharing some very hurtful incidents that had recently occurred; people making fun of him at restaurants, laughing and making cruel remarks. He just didn’t understand why people couldn’t accept and respect one another. He didn’t understand why some people judged others because of the way they look, walk or talk.
As always, I would listen to his anguish, knowing that I couldn’t “fix” the situation and that I couldn’t take his hurt away. All I could do was listen, validate his feelings, and support him with my love.
Jeff had moved to a state almost one thousand miles away, not having friends or family to be with when he got lonely or was having challenges. As we continued to talk, he shared with me that although he did get so lonely at times, he knew that he was never alone. His angels were always with him, and that would give him the strength and courage that he needed to continue his journey.
Jeff had just given me the title of the book I knew I would be writing, Never Alone. He also would describe his angels that he has seen as colored dots since he was five years old, even telling me the colors. And that is the cover of our book.
I asked him what he thought about me writing a book about our journey, and his reply was,”Mom, if we can help just one person, then my life will have purpose”.
I conferred with my son along this new path we were walking, and he felt very positive about, hopefully, providing hope and encouragement by sharing his life. In fact, part two of the book is an interview with Jeffrey, as he wanted to share in his own words how the horrific bullying affected his life and how it is everlasting. And he also wanted to share what a profound impact his spiritual environment has made; a place he can go and feel totally accepted, even though he doesn’t walk like everyone else.
After all, as he has learned, God makes no mistakes.
